Dale E. Palmer, Sr.



POWNAL - Dale E. Palmer Sr, 65, a resident of Washing Brook Road, Pownal, died suddenly Friday, February 14, 2014.Born in Rutland on August 26, 1948, he was the son of the late Edward G. and Beryl (Hallock) Palmer. Dale received his education in the Bennington schools and was a 1966 graduate of Bennington High School.A Vietnam War Veteran, Dale served three years in the U. S. Army stationed in Berlin, Germany.

Dale married the former Betty Kelley at Margaret Mary's Church in Arlington on October 14, 1972.In earlier years he had been employed at the Polygraphic company in North Benning on and at Putnam Memorial Hospital. He later worked for several years at United McGill and most recently at Vermont Composites. 

Dale was an active member of Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church and enjoyed working on the church suppers. He was a current member of the Pownal Board of Selectman and was a member of both the Knights of Columbus Council 307 and American Legion Post 13. Dale was a former member of the Pownal Center Fire Department and the Bennington Moose lodge.He enjoyed hunting, fishing, model railroading, genealogy and also served as president of the Palmer family reunion committees.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Palmer of Pownal; three sons, Dale "DJ" Jr. of Jacksonville, FL, Roy W. Palmer and his wife Kerrie and Patrick K. Palmer, all of Pownal; an aunt, Eleanor Palmer of Bennington and several cousins.

FUNERAL NOTICE: The funeral will be held from the Mahar & Son Funeral Home Friday, February 21, 2014 at 9:30 A.M. with a prayer and from Sacred Heart St. Francis de Sales Church at 10:00 A.M. where the Liturgy of Christian Death and Burial will be offered.Friends may call at the funeral home Thursday from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M. when the family will be in attendance.Burial will take place in the spring at St. Jerome's Cemetery in East Dorset.

Should friends desire memorial contributions in Dale Palmer's memory may be made to either Second Chance Animal Shelter or H.I.S. Pantry through the office of the Mahar & Son Funeral Home, 628 Main Street, Bennington , VT 05201.
